Lexus GX: The Off-Road Warrior

About the Tokyo Auto Salon

Just like last year, Toyota and Lexus have prepared an extensive exhibition for the Tokyo Auto Salon. The main exhibit will be the updated GR Yaris with a more powerful engine and, for the first time in the model's history, an automatic transmission. Lexus, on the other hand, will present the LX 600 off-road vehicle of the Team Jaos, which completed the entire route of the grueling Baja 1000 race, as well as the GX 550 Overtrail JAOS, created in the best traditions of overlanding.

A Beastly Upgrade

The modified GX is even more impressive than the GX 550 Overtrail+ AAP presented at SEMA. For example, the car features a lift suspension kit with reinforced titanium springs and frequency-dependent Kayaba Harmofleq shock absorbers. It also includes a front bumper made of ABS plastic and a range of off-road accessories. Among them are a 4mm thick aluminum skid plate, rubber-coated tubular side steps, oversized mud flaps, and 18-inch wheels with Toyo Tires Open Country A/T III tires. The JAOS Flat Rack roof rack completes the look.

Powerful Performance

Although no details about the technical specifications are provided, it is likely that they remain unchanged. The new Lexus GX is equipped with a twin-turbo V6 3.4 engine and a ten-speed Direct Shift automatic transmission. It delivers 354 horsepower and 649 Nm of torque. The Overtrail designation means that the car is also equipped with active E-KDSS stabilizers and a rear differential with electronic locking. In the US, the GX 550 Overtrail starts at $69,250, while the Overtrail+ starts at $77,250.
